You are invited to join the campaign to change the lives of hundreds of people in Nicaragua by providing them with access to education. The 2012 GE Leadership Program Ambassador Trek to Nicaragua aims to raise $85,000 to fully fund the development and construction of schools for two villages. Your contributions will help provide all supplies needed: from the building materials for the school to the desks for students. While you provide the capital, the local villagers and GE Ambassadors will work together to provide the labor and sweat equity to build the schools and a better tomorrow. In the process the sharing of knowledge, culture, and experiences will be a life-altering event for those on both sides of the exchange.
Why we are asking for your help:
Despite enjoying growth in regards to health and economy over the last twenty years, according to the UN?s Human Development Index Nicaragua remains the second poorest country in the western hemisphere. 79.9% of the population earns less than $2 per day, and a disproportionately large number of those living in poverty are women. Providing access to education to two remote Nicaraguan villages can therefore change the lives of hundreds of children, and entire communities, currently living in poverty.
Consider what your donation could accomplish:
$22 - Provide access to education for 1 child in a developing country
$220 - Provide access to education for 10 children in a developing country
$1,100 - Provide access to education for 50 children in a developing country
$5,000 - Educate 75 parents and grandparents through buildOn?s adult literacy program
By making a donation to our campaign you are joining a movement to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education.
As you make a donation leave your words of encouragement on our comment wall!
Thank you for your support!
